I grew up in western Maryland with sisters, half-brothers, and half-sisters. Our father died when I was ten. Fifteen years later Mama married a widower. With that came a step-brother and step-sisters.
Beaver Lake Camp was my six-week introduction to the North. A year later (1977) I joined the NYP team, teaching at both CLS and SLHS. I especially enjoyed the girls’ chorus. After SLHS closed, I returned to Cristal Lake, now a family counselling centre. This stirred my interest in counselling and I returned to school, receiving my M.A. from Providence Seminary in 1997. This opened the door to contract counselling in northern communities and training counsellors across Canada and around the world in the IBCI counsellor training program. I’m also involved at Beaver Lake Counselling Services.
I enjoy continued contact and visits with friends in the North whom I knew as students and/or counselling guests.
